Defying Legal Gravity is a NYC-based organization committed to legally empowering New Yorkers by democratizing the law and fostering a nationwide movement for legal literacy. Founded in New York City, the organization empowers individuals—starting with youth—through groundbreaking legal programming, mentorship, and community workshops.
By teaching the foundational first-year law school courses, DLG gives people a key to the legal system and equips participants with the knowledge and confidence to navigate legal systems, advocate for justice, and create meaningful change. By breaking down barriers to legal education, Defying Legal Gravity redefines access to justice and champions a future where the law belongs to everyone.
We believe the law is more than just a profession—it’s the rulebook that governs our society. The high cost, time, and barriers to law school have kept the legal system out of reach for many, especially in marginalized communities. This has rigged the game, leaving too many disempowered, unable to defend their rights, and unable to access justice. We are here to change that.
